Resistance

Upon my ritualistic photo-walks, the way trees grow piqued my interest. They cradle, embrace, and break down what they grow around, including man-made and natural elements. I became fascinated by their resistance to keep growing despite having exposed and worn-out roots, and their ability to be stern, yet malleable enough to grow onto different objects. I was also drawn by how they grow and attach themselves onto rocks while slowly fracturing them and creating more soil and extracting minerals.

They also resist the oppression of their built environment by, for example, gradually gathering enough mass to lift sections of sidewalks. The image Melted depicts a tree’s resistance by growing in between political boundaries, revealing its absurdity. The tree’s ability to thrive was not compromised by this physical barrier.
